What musicians are saying about The Cannery!

CONGRATULATIONS and THANK YOU! for building a 1st class nightclub with 1st class sound & lights at The Cannery. WOW! What a great venue! The whole place has the entire package – great food, location, atmosphere etc. And the STAFF is as nice as anywhere I’ve been. This place is a gem, that once people discover, will be a destination to see great music, catch dinner before the show etc. Thanks for getting some seating in there too...

"I love this venue! A wonderful atmosphere, an eclectic range of music, and excellent sound quality make The Cannery at 12 Crane a must see. Live music lovers will find themselves here more and more as this young live spot takes off." - Daj Ray

All of the Push members wanted to personally thank you for having us last Saturday night at The Cannery. The performance atmosphere was without exception the best we have encountered with great acoustics and a classy environment for both the band and the crowd. The food we had in Tavern was very tasty and my wife and I are looking forward to coming back as a patron to enjoy the food and club...Thanks again for being great professional hosts and providing an outstanding venue for us to play in Southbridge.

With Appreciation,   PUSH     "Thanks Rich and PUSH!"

If you are looking for a unique atmosphere to go see a live band, The Cannery music hall will be a pleasant surprise! Having played at many venues all over New England and New York City, we were very surprised to come upon this wonderful venue, which seems to come out of no where in Southbridge Ma. Upon arriving we were greeted by the managers and sound engineers, who were not only professional, but the most pleasant we've ever encountered (which can be rare in this industry). Now the most important aspect of The Cannery, is their sound system, and their sound engineers. The room was built for beautiful acoustics, and the sound system mixed with the sound engineers, made for perfect mix of sound on and off the stage. For a band, the most important aspect of performing a live show, is the ability to hear every member of the band clearly on stage, and that was achieved brilliantly through the skill and efforts of the sound engineers. That being enough to make for a great time for a live venue, 12 Crane has many other unique qualities that make for a memorable experience. The building is an enormous maze of unique stores and restaurants, lobby areas, apartments, and other business venues. I was lucky enough to get a grand tour of the building and was blown away by its vision for an unconventional, yet professional, all in one entertainment facility. We will definitely be looking forward to playing there again, and would recommend that anyone who is looking for a unique, and entertaining night visit 12 Crane, and the Cannery. Thanks for having us, and we look forward to seeing you soon!       MIKE SOLFIELL - Black River Sound

Many thanks to Faye for sending us this Letter to the Editor!

There is a hidden gem in Southbridge and it's named Cannery Hall at 12 Crane St. The past two Saturdays have been music heaven at the Cannery. On January 10th the Silverbacks, a great local band, played to a decent crowd once folks figured out the snow wasn't going to be too bad after all. This past Saturday, the Chris Fitz Band out of Boston put on an awesome show. There were many friendly faces there, but there was still a lot of room for more people to hear some great Blues/Rock.

This venue in Southbridge should be filled to capacity each week! I'm guessing that a lot of folks still don't know what happens at 12 Crane St. Not only does it house Cannery Hall, The Dark Horse Tavern and an upstairs dining hall, but it has a post office, a bakery and they even make their own beer and serve it there! The atmosphere is welcoming and warm and the food is very good. The best way to find out about 12 Crane St. is to go visit there. You won't be sorry. Find out more about 12 Crane St. by going to www.12crane.com . You'll be glad you did.

To the Editor:

Over the past few weekends, a friend from the local area (Charlton, Mass.) asked me to join her in Southbridge, Mass., at the 12 Crane Street Complex. This is a converted mill complex, in the center of town, which includes a tavern with its own brewery and a fine restaurant. Also, there is a sound stage area with excellent acoustics that features a dance floor.

I live in the Quiet Corner of Northeast Connecticut, and sometimes, especially in the doldrums of the winter,

my corner is too quiet! So the discovery in a town— a multi-faceted venue such as the 12 Crane Street

facility — as conveniently close by as Southbridge was a pleasant surprise for me. The only disappointment

in this “discovery” is the poor local support for this venue. In Southbridge and the surrounding communities,

long commutes to Providence, Hartford or Boston. So a place with the potential like 12 Crane Street should

be embraced by the local populace. In these grim economic times, a night out within

the community is an inexpensive alternative and helps support a local establishment, while driving

and spending less. The towns and cities in this area may never again be the manufacturing centers they

were in times past. So reclaiming older mills and renovating them for new and innovative uses improves

the financial viability and livability of the area as a whole, but it requires everyone’s support. So, come on

out for a good meal, a handcrafted beer and enjoy some music, all under one roof. I hope to see everyone there in the future!

Review of the Tommy Ardolino Show:

Twas a great show at a pretty cool venue in Southbridge. 12 Crane St. is an old factory building near a river recently renovated to hold a restaurant, pastry shop, brewery, postal shop, used book store, and tavern. I like this place a lot. Really nicely done, the restaurant looks inviting with antique style chairs and tables. The Dark Horse Tavern has food also and serves the beer made on the premises at the Honest Town Brewery (try the Irish Red, or the sublimely delicious Coffee Roaster's Stout, 7.6 % alcohol Stout with a strong espresso flavor, YUM!)....The tavern has an old pub vibe, the food is good, the beer is excellent and it's very cozy and comfortable, so comfortable in fact that we missed the first act.....Rats !!

Cannery Hall is a nice room with high ceilings, a nice new shiny dance floor, some small tables and a chairs, a small cash bar and a balcony with more tables and chairs I assume...great place.

The Mayocks started out and sounded great as usual. I'm not familiar with their song titles but the harmonies of the two are the main attraction for me, something about those sibling harmonies isn't there ?

Tommy and Friends came out and suddenly we heard the opening 12th fret harmonic riff of Yes' "Roundabout"....A look of consternation came over my attorney's face, possibly litigious, until the band cranked up a rousing version of "Get Rhythm" !! Yes, this is what you want, the twangin, blazin Teles of Clark and John with a Tommy Ardolino bouncin backbeat !! The dance floor filled up and saw a lot of action during the night. The next song was a Q fave also, "Don't She Look Good", I think, and rocked like crazy.....Can't recall all the titles, but there were other Q faves like "Hey Baby" and a Link Montana tune also I believe. All in all an excellent repertoire that kept the crowd happy and the dance floor busy. Not a bad tune in the bunch if you ask me !

The Cannery Press Release, January 2009

SOUTHBRIDGE, MA. It's "MORE THAN A FEELING" down at 12 Crane Street these days.

That's because long time band BOSTON sound engineer, and ex-Technical Director of Long View Studios,

Bill Ryan has joined forces with Visionary Renovationist Gabriel McCarthy to design and build a sensational

new music venue called The Cannery. Designed from the start as an upper level performance venue, with the

Musician, the Acoustics and the Equipment as the priorities. The Cannery promises to be a great sounding,

good looking, and comfortable place for the 30plus crowd to see regional and national acts. "We're trying to

do something with a little more class and at a higher technical level than your average music hall," says Mr. Ryan.

To their credit the two have seem to hit a home run. The reviews from the few shows that have taken place there

so far have been superlative. "We're just getting started", and "we're listening to our patrons" Gabriel McCarthy said.
